 Job Summary:

 To assist in providing an appropriate well organized program for students.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.

  1. Assists teacher in:
    1. Working directly with students assigned as per teacher’s schedule
    2. Recording accurate data on skills and/or behaviors as directed based on goals from IEP and/or BIP
    3. Supporting modifications listed on IEP/504
    4. Provideing 1:1 or small group instruction on skills as pre-teching, reinforcement of previously taught skills, or enrichment
    5. Assisting with student basic care needs (toileting, feeding, general health)
    6. Maintaining classroom organization
    7. Supervising students inside and outside of the classroom
    8. Providing supervision for “other duties” (i.e. bus or van, lunch, recess, private transportation, before care for late start, etc)
    9. Implementing IEPs of assigned students
    10. Performing other appropriate duties as assigned by the teacher
  2. Adheres to district policies and departmental, building and classroom procedures
  3. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students
  4. Follow district policy on student confidentiality, health and safety
  5. Respect the legal and human rights of students and their families
  6. Paraprofessionals assigned to individual students will meet the needs of the student as outlined in the IEP

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. 60 hours of college credit and/or have passed the Paraprofessional Praxis (ParaPro Assessment)
  2. Experience with young people.
  3. Prior experience in a school setting is desired.
  4. Experience with educational applications (i.e., copying machine and computer skills) is desired.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail.
  2. Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary.
  3. Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  4. Excellent human relation skills.
  5. Knowledge of office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machine, and related items).
