JOB SUMMARY:

To provide quality education for early childhood students with special needs.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Additional duties may be assigned.

  1. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the health, safety, and well being of the students.
  2. Participates as a team member in the multidisciplinary evaluation process.
  3. Develops, implements, and evaluates an Individual Education Plan (IEP) that meets the identified individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  4. Structures an environment that is conducive to developmentally appropriate practice standards.
  5. Provides written evidence of regular program preparation and submits purchase orders, reports and necessary student documentation in a legible, organized and concise manner.
  6. Establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, or themes and communicates them in a positive manner to the students and families.
  7. Uses behavior modification standards appropriate to developmental and cognitive levels of the students.
  8. Administers and provides written interpretation of developmental scales necessary for evaluation purposes.
  9. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individual or student groups involved.
  10. Maintains at least one monthly 30 minute contact per student with parent/caregiver to discuss collaborative efforts for IEP implementation.
  11. Assists in preparing disabled students for safe transit home or disembarking from the school bus upon arrival to school.
  12. Makes provisions for being available to families for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so by principal or Director of ECSE.
  13. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and works cooperatively with Director to evaluate paraprofessional job performance.
  14. Attends professional development activities, other in-service sessions and serves on committees as needed.
  15. Protects the confidentiality of student rights and in accordance with both state and federal laws.
  16. Has the primary responsibility for incorporating related service goals and objectives provided by ancillary staff into the total academic performance of the student.
  17. Adheres to all Board policies and procedures.

ECUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education.
  2. Valid Missouri Certification in ECSE

 

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  1. Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, and interact effectively with all aspects of the school community is required.
  2. Ability to solve conflicts, maintain confidentiality and remain open to various ideas and viewpoints.

 

MATHMATICAL SKILLS:

  1. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  2. Ability to use and teach mathematics commensurate with assigned position.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

  1. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines while complying with established policies and procedures of the building and district.
  2. Identifies and resolve problems in a timely manner, gathers and analyzes information skillfully; uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  3. Ability to concentrate, think, read and learn is necessary to perform the essential job duties.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Must have a physical exam and TB test prior to first day of work at the employer’s expense.
  2. Demonstrate organizational ability and attention to detail.
  3. Ability to provide assistance to the school community as necessary.
  4. Ability to work independently.
  5. Excellent human relation skills.
  6. Knowledge of office equipment (computers, copiers, fax machine, and related items).

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly sit, talk, listen, and respond.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movement; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee will regularly stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, precise hand-eye coordination and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.  Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 50 pounds, such as, to lift files, papers, and equipment.  The foregoing is not an exclusive list and the employee may be required to exceed the minimum physical demand specifications should the safety and security of students and staff be compromised.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential duties of this job.  The noise level in the work environment is usually at a moderate to loud level with frequent interruptions.  The employee continuously interacts with students, staff and the public.  Travel may be necessary to various District buildings and/or other sites.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job duties.
